Which areas do you cover for horse cremation?

W. Martin & Son cover 12 counties for equine cremation: Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Greater London, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Northamptonshire. We collect from your home, your stable, your livery yard or your veterinary practice anywhere in those counties, and we have cared for horses from the same family yard in Braintree, Essex since 1890.

  • Our yard is at Bakers Lane, Black Notley, Braintree, Essex CM77 8QS, open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm.

How far will you travel to collect a horse?

We travel out from our own yard at Bakers Lane, Black Notley, Braintree, Essex CM77 8QS to 12 counties: Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Greater London, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Northamptonshire. Surrounding counties are covered by request, so if yours is not on that list please call 01376 331136 and ask.

How quickly can you collect my horse?

We aim to collect as quickly as possible, often the same or the next day. Please call us at any time and we will arrange collection at a time that suits you.

Is collection included in the price wherever I live?

Yes. Collection from your home, stable or veterinary practice is included in both individual cremation from £650 and communal cremation from £330, across every county we cover. The final cost can depend on your horse’s size and any memorial options you choose, so please call 01376 331136 for an exact quote.

Do you collect from veterinary practices across the region?

Yes. We collect directly from veterinary practices across the region. Simply let your vet know that you would like W. Martin & Son to care for your horse, and we will arrange everything with them.

Will you still collect if my horse is in a difficult spot or the weather is bad?

Yes. We collect your horse in a dedicated vehicle, handled with quiet dignity by our experienced team. We are able to reach difficult locations and continue collections in poor weather.

How are my horse’s ashes returned if I live outside Essex?

With an individual cremation we hand-deliver your horse’s ashes, or the memorial you have chosen, back to your chosen location anywhere in the counties we cover. We aim to return ashes within around a week and we keep you informed at every stage.
