- Traditional oak caskets and decorative urns
- Scatter tubes for a meaningful place
- Engraved nameplates
- Polished horseshoes
- Mane and tail keepsakes
- Guidance on scattering, burial or keeping ashes at home

There is no right or wrong way to remember your horse. Our team will gently talk you through the options whenever you are ready.
What memorial options are available after a horse cremation?
W. Martin & Son offers six memorial and keepsake options for horses and ponies: a traditional oak casket, a decorative urn, a scatter tube, an engraved nameplate, a polished horseshoe, and a cutting of mane or tail. You can choose one or several, and we hand-deliver them to you with your horse’s ashes.
- Traditional oak casket, a solid, understated casket for your horse’s ashes, with an engraved nameplate if you would like one.
- Decorative urn, for owners who would rather display their horse’s ashes at home.
- Scatter tube, for scattering ashes somewhere that meant something, a favourite field, a hack or the yard.
- Engraved nameplate, carrying your horse’s name.
- Polished horseshoe, one of your horse’s own shoes, cleaned and polished for you to keep.
- Mane or tail keepsake, a cutting prepared for you to hold on to. Just ask when you arrange the cremation.
Do I need an individual cremation to have a memorial?
For anything that holds ashes, yes. Ashes are only returned after an individual horse cremation, from £650, so caskets, urns, scatter tubes and engraved nameplates go with that option. A communal cremation, from £330, does not return ashes. Keepsakes that are not made from ashes, such as a polished horseshoe or a cutting of mane or tail, only need to be requested when you arrange the cremation.
How much do horse memorials cost?
An individual cremation from £650 already includes your horse’s ashes returned in a traditional oak casket with a nameplate, or in scatter tubes if you prefer. Further memorials and keepsakes are priced on request, because what feels right is different for every owner. Call 01376 331136 for an exact, no-obligation price, or see our full horse cremation prices and our guide to what horse cremation costs in the UK.
How are memorials and ashes returned to you?
We hand-deliver your horse’s ashes and your chosen memorial to your home, your yard or another place of your choosing, usually within around a week of the cremation. You can follow our four-step cremation process from the first call through to that delivery, and we will keep you updated at every stage.
Where do you deliver equine memorials?
We deliver from our yard at Bakers Lane, Black Notley, Braintree, Essex CM77 8QS, across Essex, the South East and the East of England. That includes Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Greater London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex, and you can check the counties we cover for your area.

Found W. Martin and Son on Google and they were the best price to come and collect my horse. The service was fantastic, they came out in a special 4x4 vehicle in the snow and delivered him back in just over a week. Highly recommended, thank you.
